A Nonsense Christmas with Sabrina Carpenter: Everything You Could Need This Christmas! (Review)

Writer: Amy KatharineAmy Katharine

The holiday season just got better with Sabrina Carpenter’s festive special, A Nonsense Christmas arriving on Netflix. To summarise how good it is straight off the bat, fans are already demanding all the featured songs within their own album!

The 50-minute spectacle is centred around songs from her EP ‘Fruitcake’ which is finally getting the attention it deserves. In true Sabrina style, she herself summarised the show perfectly as “the ho, ho, ho-iest special of all!”

A Musical Comedy Packed with Celebrity Sparkle!

Sabrina doesn’t shy away from poking fun at the predictable formula of holiday specials! Acknowledging that her special isn’t an original idea within her monologue, Sabrina’s sarcasm and wit is what makes the event even more amusing. She leans into the classic tropes and stereotypes of Christmas specials but sprinkles her own Sabrina fairy dust of innuendos, sultry, speculator outfits and vintage vibes to create a magical final product.

The magic doesn’t stop with Sabrina. A star-studded lineup of celebrity guests adds even more sparkle to the spectacle. From a karaoke-inspired rendition of “Last Christmas” with Chappell Roan to a sultry duet of “Santa Baby” featuring Shania Twain, the collaborations are as entertaining as they are memorable. Other notable appearances include Kali Uchis, Quinta Brunson, Tyla, Cara Delevingne, Sean Astin, and more, each contributing their own humour and talent to this dazzling production.

Sabrina’s Vintage Vision

The special’s vintage feel adds an extra layer of charm that elevates this special even more. Sabrina’s love for vintage aesthetics shines through in every detail: retro-style “ad breaks,” editorial cuts, and even a behind-the-scenes montage. The show wraps up with a blooper reel that captures its fun-loving spirit, ensuring viewers feel like part of the holiday magic.

Outfits…Have you ever tried this one?

One cannot talk about Sabrina Carpenter without mentioning her outfits. I counted at least 10 completely different outfits, with their own festive, Sabrina flare. Each iconic outfit is styled in a way which each embody her playful personality and festive vibes! Trying to pick a favourite from the Netflix special was almost impossible but her dress during ‘Cindy Lou Who’ was simply breathtaking and matched the lyrics and performance perfectly. The black and white video and the way the train of the dress flew in the wind brought a tear to my eye. She later caps off the special in a sparkly red bodysuit, channeling her current Short n Sweet tour style.

A Joyful Holiday Must-Watch

With its humour, musical brilliance, and undeniable charm, A Nonsense Christmas is a smart move for Sabrina Carpenter—and a must-watch for anyone seeking holiday entertainment. Family-friendly yet delightfully cheeky, it’s a show you’ll want to revisit year after year.

Let’s end this review with my very own Nonsense outro…

Sabrina went viral for her a nonsense outros,

What I want for Christmas is to make him grow,

Climbing up his chimney like a ho, ho ho,

I love Brina’s special a real big tonne,

Driving home for Christmas, wanna get some?

I really, really hope that Santa does come…

…sorry, I tried!
