Coralie Forgets second feature film, body horror ‘The Substance’ has now hit cinemas, right in time for the spooky season! An ageing star, portrayed by Demi Moore, decides to try an experimental drug which creates a younger version of herself, portrayed by Margaret Qualley, which has horrifying side effects. Here is my review!

As you may have already heard, The Substance is full of intense and grotesque imagery that left audiences squirming at multiple points. It is definitely not worth a watch for squeamish people but, if you are able to move past that like myself, you will be stunned by this absolute spectacle!

The visuals are accompanied by arguably the most ‘heart-pounding’ score of the year! The sound elevates this film to a whole new level. It was definitely the most memorable factor of the film for me. Both the visuals and the sound create such an uncomfortable vibe.

I cannot praise the stars Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley enough, their performances were hugely captivating and left me speechless.

Demi Moores transformative performance was superbly horrific. By that I mean the changes she goes through throughout are truly magnificent.

This movie gained a lot of praise and recognition at the Cannes Film Festival and it’s no surprise!

This film explores youth and beauty whilst blending body-horror and sharp social commentary excellently. This film pushed a lot of boundaries and I wouldn’t be surprised if for years to come this became a huge cult classic.

One of my favourite films of the year and I can’t wait to rewatch it. Luckily I got to watch it early due to Odeon Cinemas Scream Unseen! I’m so glad I can go rewatch this masterpiece! In cinemas now.
